Description
A cedar tree that has falllen over. Due to an extreme content of resin, even very old cedar trees decompose very slowly. Therefore, in the 17th and 19th century (Edo period) the cedars were used for roof shindles. However naturally died trees (e.g. in typhhons) or tree stumps left since the 17th century are a source nowadays for "ancient" cedar wood, called domai-boku or "trees buried in soil" from which woodworks are made that "shine" due to the high resin content.
