They are real for sure. You can check this out that my camera can see the fireflies [link]
There were also some 100 Japanese present, that could give evidence. The quality of the video is probably not the best, but just compare the exposure time 1/25s there at ISO 6400 and here 5 s at ISO 1600. The reason why I don't do video in the woods is, because it too dark there. The temple was lit slightly so I had a bright enough background...
